Rare, Full and Blue

When I hear the phrase, “Blue Moon,” I immediately think of the song by Rodgers and Hart, sung and recorded by many artists.

Last night, my thoughts about Blue Moon, were purely astronomical.

I captured this last night. Thanks to our new camera, it wasn’t just a blob in the sky. I could zoom in and get a really nice and more detailed shot.

A blue moon, has nothing to do with color. It simply means a second full moon in the same calendar month.

As NASA explains,Β  “Most blue moons appear pale gray and white, just like the moon you’ve seen on any other night.”

And it is a rare occurrance; (the last time was in August 2012, and the next time will be January 2018), so “once in a blue moon” is a phrase still worthy of a rare occurrence.

Getting that shot was really difficult because I had it on zoom, and it’s really hard to keep the camera image still enough to snap the shot. I’m still new, and I think a tripod might be the trick on that one. πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see yours!

I believe you! It’s hard business to get the moon right! Without a tripod I make a mess of blurred images! Does that mean you didn’t use a tripod? Wow! I’m even more impressed.
I’ll post it tomorrow for you! Deal?

Oh, I’ve gotten fireballs more times than the actual moon, on zoom. I don’t have a tripod yet. This is our first digital camera, so I’m just learning how it works. We’re definitely going to put a tripod on our shopping list.

I used Mr. Quantum as a sort of tripod LOL But still, really difficult. The problem is I’d get it to focus, but the act of pushing the button to click the pic would move it out of focus. I did get some nice pics of a deer who visited me on zoom, but that was earthbound, so quite more simple πŸ™‚

It’s a deal… will check it out – actually later today, as it’s past midnight πŸ™‚
