The Sandbox Writing Challenge 16 – Is Seeing Really Believing?

The Sandbox Writing Challenge 16 – Crystal Ball poses the question:

If you could foresee one accomplishment in your future, what would you like it to be?

Right away when I saw the words Crystal Ball, I thought the question would be about what situation would I like to see how it ‘worked’ out.

Case in point, Mr. Quantum suggested, day before yesterday, to include the current dilemma, which we affectionately call, “In Search of Thanksgiving” (thank you JoHanna Massey for liking WHAT’S THAT SMELL blog post of 17 April… )

Sitting here one day post Thanksgiving, it didn’t in fact work out. With my penchant for half-assed attempts at planning the greatest meal ever had, we instead ended up ordering in Chinese because nobody, anywhere (aka restaurants) were willing to make our dreams come true. I won’t go into the fact that even the Chinese dinner was a mess up.

But in all seriousness, I give you my actual thoughts: I took out a part above which basically points out the flaw in my first thought that comes to mind, habit. If I knew how a journey I’m about to take would turn out, it would save me the trouble of making the decision to do it in the first place, knowing the outcome. You can see how convoluted that is, when what I actually need to do is keep it simple.

Bringing it down to what is most simple, the answer to the question posed by Calen at Impromptu Promptlings for the Sandbox Writing Challenge, is that I could say, to have learned the lessons I have been given in this lifetime. It may sound like more than one accomplishment, but if you consider that while life is made up of many aspects, it’s still ONE life, and from its beginning to its end spent within this physical body, it’s one continuous flow. Thus, learning the lessons is one major accomplishment.

I may feel that I keep making wrong decisions, but I believe that each direction brings us to places which help us to forge learning, one way or another.

Thank goodness we aren’t all psychic because then we would never learn from the mistakes we make – including ordering Chinese for Thanksgiving. That sounds kinda nice, actually. 🙂

Very thoughtful answer, Fim. And I personally LOVED how you arrived at it! LOL Sucks, though. that even the Chinese got screwed up. Had to smile when you told me about ordering Chinese. It make me think of the Chinese turkey in A Christmas Story. I nearly died when they lopped that duck’s head off! 😀

But are they really ‘wrong’ decisions Fim …. or are they what we are supposed to learn from? 🙂

The half-assed greatest meal is sometimes the best solution. When in doubt use a wok and a rice cooker. 🙂 Happy Holidays!

Thanks for this cosmic shout out link Fimnora!

I’ve had Chinese take out Thanksgivings. I’ve had Thanksgivings on the deck of a tugboat in New York Harbor. One time my dog snatched the turkey and ran. No one thought it was funny except me. And the dog. Oh, and one year, when no one wanted to come to our house for Thanksgiving I decided that Sweet Terry and I should go to a fancy restaurant. It was full of folks who no one wanted to come to their house for Thanksgiving. We left before the pie because the sense of sadness that pervaded the place was just …well sad. I’ve never quite had that Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving, but boy have I had occasion to coming close enough times to be able to just rest there. In that space. It is one of the things I love about being old. That knowing that it is all good.

It is as you say Fimnora, ONE Life.

Ah, the memories of Thanksgivings past! I think I mentioned in the post I did back some time ago, about the best thing being hanging with some wonderful women who made my life bearable in those early days, being part of the chatter, drinking in the aroma, and managing to do at least a half dozen taste tests 🙂

But there was also really interesting Thanksgiving the 2nd time I lived in Colorado, when I was invited to join my landlady’s family who were professors of International Studies department, and all of the exchange students were invited, and everyone brought dishes from their own countries. That was the most interesting.

Of course, there was also the Thanksgiving when a boyfriend and I (this was the first time in Colorado), when we were evicted, and ended up eating at The Jolly Roger restaurant which was part of Boulder’s Ramada Inn. That was different. 🙂

One extra special Thanksgiving, in 1996, I got engaged, to Mr. Quantum. That’s a whole interesting story in itself.

You are so right about ONE Life….
Isn’t it the joy of having gone gray…to have so many varied memories for the term Thanksgiving.

Well then, is there something we can do to change the time-space continuum, so that we know what’s coming next, so we can prepare for lessons and situations…like Chinese take out for Turkey Day? I didn’t even know it was Thanksgiving. Here, it’s just another day. LIke Xmas. We have two New Years. Good guy…everything really is relative in your world, isn’t it? Can you bend time? Or space? Thought? Do you like saltine crackers? wait, I’m losing it again…

As a matter of fact, I was just looking into a subject which I’d come across some decades ago, and knew about, but now it comes at a time when I am motivated to look into it more deeply. It’s called Pre-birth Planning.

Thanksgiving should be a daily celebration. Or whenever you feel thankful for something. Even if it’s a memory of the view from your vacation house in Bali, don’t worry, be happy. We can make our own holidays, you know. Like Badfish Day!

@ everything being relative in my world, I’ve always subscribed to that theory. I wonder if wasting time is bending it? And making space where they appeared to be none has become a creative endeavor. Since I like being a mindbender, the possibility of bending thoughts thrives here. And yes, I LOVE saltine crackers!!!

Oh look! Look what I found! *picks it up and gives it to you.* Now you haven’t lost it anymore.

Pre-birth planning. Like when your spirit is off in the ethers and is trying to decide who its parents should be before being conceived and then born. Like that? I think that may happen.
Yeah…I try to make every day (no not every day…many days) a thankful day. Some days, I’m just pissed.
I love this idea: wasting time is bending it!!! I think you’re on to something there, Fim Noir.

The people are a huge part of pre-birth planning, but also what lessons the Soul wants to learn, what issues it would like to face. I first heard about it decades ago, and its come back into my purview.

Being pissed is part of the balance. I try to stay on the surf board but often swim in the roiling waters.

I’ve been testing that theory of wasting time is bending it. I’m getting really good at it! LOL

It’s freaky when we can see it, or when we didn’t know that we shall it until we realized later that all our actions presented that we knew in advance. The freaky stuff is that psychic talent is rarely reliable in term of “a fixed future experience.” I believe this is because there are so many possibilities, at infinite points in time, (even fractions of seconds – which are human-thought time-divisions). Sometimes either our brains or our psychic faculties can account for these myriad factors. *sigh* I’m catching myself from making this anymore long-winded. I loved reading your words. I find myself pretty comfortable here, amidst your thoughts. It’s neat to read about all the layers of Thanksgiving (too- that came out in the comments). The Chinese takeout was just so funny I cannot even comment on it. I do hope you all were at least well-fed! 😉

Yeah, and I’ve so often read it, and heard it said, what we need to know is inside already. If I would just get out of my way, I’d spend less time thinking and more time doing. I also agree with the endless possibilities and the infinite points in time. Was just doing some reading on that, in fact. I would imagine that it is those moments where we hear the whisper of our Soul, which bring us to opportunities to walk our walk.

No sighing. I LOVE reading your thoughts and ideas and I find comments often bring a greater depth to the ideas we all have. There’s never a limit to what can be said here at the Hermitage. 🙂 It makes my heart happy to know you are comfortable here amidst my thoughts. I’m always so happy to see you here.

Yes, we were well fed. I made it last until this very evening. 🙂

      Blessings!
