The Sandbox Writing Challenge 22 – Prison or Freedom

At one of my favorite hangouts, Impromptu Promptlings, on this bright and sunny Wednesday, I found Tuesday’s Sandbox Writing Challenge, which the lovely Lady Calen has brought to us this week.  In a two part question, we’re asked:

1. What part of YOU is locked inside this house?

2. What can you do to free that part of yourself?

The house can be seen at the link listed above. It’s quite a lovely looking house. It has at least 3 stories, with a fourth beneath ground; the basement. It looks to have air conditioning, and I’m sure, it has heat. It’s likely to have a kitchen, with a stove, refrigerator, dishes, pots and pans, and a nicely stocked pantry. There’s hopefully at least two bathrooms, and several rooms to serve as personal domain, and shared space.

Oh and look, there’s a porch I can put a rocking chair on, and sit and watch the world go by. And that yard, beautiful, as long as there’s not another house for a mile in any direction.

I can’t think of any reason to want to leave the house. You see, to the agoraphobically challenged, this is a paradise, a safe house, if you will.

Now you ask me about a building like this:

and I’m going Great Escape on you, to get the hell out of Dodge. If I couldn’t dig a tunnel out, I’d find sanctuary – as I’ve done in my life at work, and other places during the worse of times – in something like this:

So the answer would be, no part of me is locked inside or more importantly, feels trapped. I’m there because I want to be. One of my favorite lines from a book is, “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” – Bilbo Baggins

That is pretty much how this lovely house made me feel. It does make the second part of the question a moot point.

Granted, I may be missing the point altogether, but it wouldn’t be the first time.
