The Monday Music Medicine Show – THE 42 – Songs of Yesteryear

Welcome to the Monday Music Medicine Show – THE 42!

When I was young, the first music I heard was what my mother and father played. We mainly listened classical  music on the radio at breakfast. I know that was my father’s want, though my mother also loved classical. But she also was quite eclectic in her own interests. Much of the music I came to love was from her.

One of her favorite artists was Frankie Laine, and one of her favorite songs he had recorded was Granada. For me, what I love about this song begins with the musicality; the arrangement and instrumentation, which is passionate and sensual. It stirs the romance of my heart, and might be one of the few songs I can sing, and I think it is actually recognizable as Granada, and we’re talking acapella, here.

Frankie Laine was many things, if you look at his ‘resume.’  He was well known as a singer, songwriter and and actor. For me, he was the voice that painted the picture of the kind of place, as the lyrics claim, “I’m falling under your spell.” This is exactly what I did with the song, as well. This was one of the records which was on my playlist well before playlists became all the rage. So I offer you today the version of this song I grew up with, and fell in love with.
