Welcome to the Monday Music Medicine Show!
This morning while making breakfast one of the songs I consider a most beautiful piece came on. It took me a minute to recall what it was. There are SO many that I feel are the most beautiful, so I had to rely on the fact that it was among the letter “C” group, alphabetically. Then it hit me, Celtic BSG was the actual way I titled it. For those who are not SciFi fans, and have not seen the second and updated Battlestar Galactica, this is one which belongs to Admiral Adama. It is a very poignant scene, and the music exemplifies the range of emotions within the scene. I named it Celtic because it has the bagpipes at the end, but also has that sense of Scotland and Ireland within the strains of the music.

Music is medicine! I found myself recently in a space that some music held too many painful memories. I found 8tracks.com, at which I found lots of unfamiliar music to keep my tempo upbeat all day … so it’s an unfamiliar soundtrack, but it’s fitting in quite nicely.
I’m a bit late, but I found your blog through the A to Z Challenge. Glad I did!

I do know what you mean about certain pieces of music being painful memories with it, though I have also found that sometimes I need that moment to grieve a loss, and the music gave me the opportunity.
Wow 8tracks. That’s going back some, and I remember that time.
I’m glad that you found that the Celtic BSG was able to fit in nicely to your playlists!
I agree, the A to Z Challenge has provided the opportunity to find and meet new bloggers!

Ha! I eat breakfast. I just don’t “make” it. Fruit, nuts, yogurt usually. I never eat out for breakfast. And rarely for dinner.

Sounds to me like you’re talking the cooking kind of breakfast. No, I don’t do that. I do make oatmeal, but it’s organic even while being instant. I make toast with it, cut up fruit, and … eat. I stopped doing cooked breakfasts for breakfast, and moved it to dinner time. It’s easier. And my motto has always been, ‘when in doubt, eat breakfast.’ We eat out ‘afternoon dinner’ once a week, if even that now.

That actually sounds good! I love fruit with my yogurt also, but usually I eat it after lunch, which is just a sandwich – almond butter with home made apple jam, or something like that.

Better is a relative term. What may seem better to you, may not seem thus to me. And vice versa, but we also might have a synchronicity in another, and agree, and decide which pile of poop served purpose. *grinning*

I forgot to say: do you know “Summertime Blues” by Eddie Cochran? I’ve loved that song since grade school, it enters my head often, and I sing the refrain over and over: “don’t know what I’m-a-gonna do, cause there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues.” Then there’s this heavy duty drum beat pounding in my brain

Yes, I do know Eddie Cochran and his Summertime Blues. There’s others who recorded the song as well, but I must say Eddie’s is my favorite.
What are The Summertimes Blues for you? Not knowing where to go? Knowing where to go, but it’s more than one place? Too hot where you live? Not hot enough? Inquiring minds want to know.

I never hear that on the radio. I never get the summertime blues, I love summer. Maybe I get the “before trip decision” blues? I always put out feelers to a number of places, or options…usually one of them simply bubbles to the top and I go there. That hasn’t happened this time.

If memory serves me (and it often doesn’t), weren’t you the hit the road kind of traveler, who never planned? So, what decision do you have to make. I know, you mentioned having to choose where to go. What about the ‘eenie meenie, miney, mo’ choice maker? Be happy no matter where you go, because we all know, by now, that ‘no matter where you go, there you are.’ 😀

Yeah, sometimes I hit the road with no plan of where I’d end up. Sometimes I’d know at least which country I was going to. These days, I’m a little more into knowing “something about something.” I want a bed when I arrive. I want to know where I’m going. But yeah, I’m not really bothered, or I guess I’d make some kind of decision. I feel like I’ve got too many things going on in my head and can’t concentrate on travel thoughts, or planning. Like commenting…we all have our priorities.

The cool thing about commenting is that you can do it from where ever you end up. Do you think that you’re getting to a point where you want to travel, but like maybe on an every other trip kinda thing? That way you can hang out in Bali the other times – or some other place you found to be as much of a paradise – and just be in the moment of being as opposed to having all the trippy plans to think about? Just a thought.
Remember, no matter where you go, you can take us with you. 🙂

Yeah…I’m truly thinking that…go to Bali, sit, write, relax. And then next trip, go on a trip some place. But then, I think, no…go some place NOW because you’re SUPPOSED to be traveling and writing about that. But then, I think…well, you see that my world is like umteen shades of gray.

I also thought it had a Irish musicality. First time I heard it, I fell in love with it. It’s on my list – which I’ve never had a chance to play here – of songs that I never get tired of listening to.

I’ve been playing the Schubert Cello Quintet in C Op. 163 with some friends from my orchestra. It is very beautiful. I didn’t know the piece before I was asked to substitute for the regular violist they have playing with them. Then I sightread it one evening and fell in love with it. I’ve heard that Schubert didn’t get a chance to hear it performed before his death. That’s incredibly sad.

I also blogged about playing it, but I didn’t embed the video in the blog because we aren’t ready to perform it yet. There’s another video in the blog, of a piece that I like and did perform, but it’s not as gorgeous as the Schubert.

p.s. I loved the updated Battlestar Galactica, and Admiral Adama’s character. His love story with Laura Roslin was one of my favorite subplots. I had forgotten there was beautiful music that went along with it!

Oh my Gosh, yes! The Admiral and Laura Roslin was a great match! We have yet to see the end of that series. But it’s on our ‘to finish watching list’ so I look forward to seeing how it all worked out.

We’ve yet to finish all of BSG, but began re-watching after Caprica.
