The Sandbox Writing Challenge #43 – The WHOLE Truth And Nothing But…

In the Sandbox, this week, presented by Lady Calen, over at Impromptu Promptlings, we’re talking about what makes us feel WHOLE.

That’s a good question. But first, I’d have to explore what being WHOLE means. What are the ingredients for being whole?

I thought of two other words which might begin to explain what I think this question really speaks to. Balance first came to mind. When I am (or even just feel) balanced, that means everything is in its place; everything is working, together. There is synchronized motion and being.

Centered is the other word, which may or may not be the same as balanced. I just went to thesaurus dot com and they are not synonyms of each other. But they also don’t actually describe – according to ‘webster’ – the sense in which I’m using them.

When things are balanced in my life, it looks like this: everything is working together, all aspects are equal, nothing is out of place. Now this means squat without knowing that I’m not talking, for the most part, about the physical only. Feeling whole, being balanced, and centered, are abstract on a bigger scale. It is more about how I feel mentally.

There is a Tarot card in a deck I use (my ME deck) called The Wheel:

10-wheel

This depicts the sense of wholeness I associate with the question. The hub is when I’m centered. The ever changing seasons is life, external, as well as internal.

The idea of The Wheel is that there are ups and downs in living. Being able to experience a feeling – whether negative or positive – acknowledge it, accept it but then release it to allow the continuous flow of life and not get into a ‘log jam’ is the goal. It is an ongoing goal in my Earth Walk. When I am balanced, centered, WHOLE, I’ve got, and am experiencing the world; the entirety of living.

21-world

Of course, the reality is, I’m always WHOLE, I just don’t know it. It’s all there, all the time. It’s about the awareness of that fact. It has been thus always.

Nice post, Fim. I love feeling in balance and whole. I agree, we are always whole, and whole as One – the all of everything. I can’t say I’m there all the time…like today I’m not in balance. It’s because of outside circumstances, which shouldn’t make a difference, but it does. One of the places I love is burning up. I always think of the trees and the animals. Such beauty. So sad. So so sad. 😦 And then my dog brought me a deer leg. Thanks a lot. I just hope it wasn’t a mom, as it is fawning season right now. She didn’t kill it. She just found the leg, which makes me think someone shot it. The pond is drying up with no beaver. Ok….brighter side – there are baby birds in a tree hole near the house. See? My balance comes from what I see around me a lot of the time. It needs to come more from my own center like in your Gaia the World card. Yeah, I gotta a lotta work to do yet. Haha! ❤

      Thank you, Mary.

Being out of balance is part of being in balance, because the one allows me to see and appreciate when I’m on the other side. The important part for me is to acknowledge those chaotic times, accept that I am displeased, but then let go of the discontent which allows the sweeter nectar of life to return.

I’m not particularly happy, especially when dealing with the parts of life which somehow have managed to become more difficult over the years. That’s when I head out into the sun, the Greening Places and consciously allow the process to work itself out, and when I finally sit and close my eyes, and listen to all my brother and sister beings chirping and buzzing, and watch them waddling through the blades of grass, I feel the previous moments melting away and I feel, once again, connected to All That Is.

You’re right. It takes a lot of work, which I’m inclined, on occasion, to not want to do. I acknowledge, accept that too, and get on with what ever is in the here and now, slowly, semi-methodically.

Wave to the baby birds for me!

❤ (my emoticons are old world)

“It’s about the awareness of that fact.” That’s a fantastic answer and a GREAT post! ❤

I am finding your blog for the first time on the Summer Road Trip. I like the incentive to keep finding new bloggers. Your post on wholeness certainly contributes to the discussion from Promptings. Great job. In a sense I have been remembering a time of wholeness..summer time growing up hoping to help remind others what summer was once about. Let me know what you think if you have time to drive by.

Greetings Stepheny! So happy you’ve stopped by The Hermitage 🙂 Is this the A to Z Summer Road Trip? I’m on it myself. Glad to find new folks to add to my daily reading!

Thank you for your thoughts on my Wholeness post. Do you recall the “Country Time Lemonade” commercials? They had a sense of, as you say, what ‘summer time growing up’ was like once upon a time, and bringing the taste of a simpler more lovely way to compared to today’s hectic way of life.
