Camera On The Run

I’m getting better at remembering to take my camera out with me. Tonight, I stuck it in my pocket for the garbage run (tomorrow morning is trash pick up)… And shining down beautifully upon us was the Full Moon. My first try was fuzzy:

Note the light above at 1 O’clock… is Jupiter.

The lights in among the trees, while they look like the Marfa lights, are actually the lights from our neighbor on the left, and across the street on the right.

So I tried again:

It’s not as clear as one shot of an Autumn moon from last year, but Q steadied me, and I waited until I got focus and snapped.

The last full moon of the winter season in March, is also known as the Lenten Moon, the Crow Moon to signify the crows that appear at the end of winter, and Sap Moon to mark the time for harvesting maple syrup from maple tree saps. It is also known as the Worm Moon because of the earthworms that come out at the end of winter and herald the coming of spring.*

I can definitely vouch for the Crows, but then again, they’re here all year round. I like the idea that it’s harvesting time for Maple Syrup. They have a harvesting place, if I’m not mistaken, at a park nearby. Will have to check that out this week. Worm moon, while I’d love to catch sight of some brother and sister worms, they’re not around at the moment. Of course, I’m quite aware that it is the Lenten Moon through our lovely Lady Calen who has been posting daily over at Impromptu Promptlings in a one word prompt challenge for this period of Lent.

Off to do a Full Moon Reading!

Blessings All

Thank you!!! I’m definitely enjoying the camera. Still have a lot to learn about lighting and such. But it does take really clear pics. That big moon shot was a close up, and it’s so hard to hold still to get the camera to bring it into focus. We definitely need a tripod.

I love both. the second moon is beautiful and clear. So funny Q is your tripod. We all need one.:) The second one, the fuzziness sort of makes it. Gives it a mystical story book nature.
    Peace

Thank you, Mary! Yes, I always say that Q is my Rock. He steadies me in so many ways. On the first, the fuzziness made all the lights stretch out and gave the sense of Close Encounters LOL When I first saw it I thought it was something other than the neighbor’s house lights, then realized what it was. But I do like your take on the sense of a mystical storybook nature!

      Blessings,
      Fim

Lovely pictures of the moon Fim, mine never seem to come out very well, but you’ve done a great job. I had heard of the name Worm Moon before but not the others – the ground is warming up here and the worms are out in full force already šŸ™‚

Thank you Kim. I had to use the zoom to get the second. It is hard, though to get focus unless I can stand perfectly still until it clears up, and snap without moving an inch. When the moon is as big as last night, it’s somewhat easier though.
I always am looking up the Moon names. I know that we’re warming up (have not really had a bad winter), but the worms are not quite out in force. Probably after a good rain (we need one) we’ll see them.

Oh, you got two really good ones. Isn’t it amazing how hard Capturing The Moon is? I haven’t gotten a good one for the Crow Moon yet. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Thank you! And YES, it’s SO difficult to hold still for the focus, on the close-up. I really DO want to get a tripod this year.
I’m so happy that you get to have the pic! Please be my guest and save it for yourself.
